The OECD's Education and Skills Directorate is an integral part of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development OECD, one of twelve primary areas driving global policy analysis and advice. Its core mission is to d individuals and nations in identifying and developing knowledge, skills, and values that underpin better employment prospects and enhanced quality of life, economic prosperity, and social inclusion.

Leadership

Under the guidance of Director Andreas Schleicher, this dynamic team ensures strategic oversight and implementation of policies med at improving education systems globally. The Directorate's leadership includes:

• Yuri Belfali as Head of Early Childhood and Schools Division

• Paulo Santiago overseeing Policy Advice and Implementation Division

• Tia Loukkola leading Innovation and Measuring Progress Division

How We Operate

The Directorate is managed by four bodies that collectively oversee and execute the organization's initiatives:

1. Education Policy Committee: This body provides strategic guidance on policy development, ensuring alignment with OECD principles.

2. Centre for Educational Research and Innovation CERI: CERI specializes in international comparative research, innovation and indicators to foster educational advancements globally.

3. Programme for International Student Assessment PISA Governing Board: This board oversees the largest global assessment of student performance in mathematics, reading, science, and more.

4. Programme for Teaching and Learning International Survey TALIS Governing Board: TALIS focuses on teachers' practices, professional development, and school leadership across countries.

What We Focus On

Our work encompasses surveys that enable education syste learn from each other through comparable empirical evidence:

• The International Early Learning and Child Well-Being Study

• The OECD Survey on Social and Emotional Skills, assessing conditions for emotional wellbeing in schools.

• PISA 2022 Results, including creative thinking outcomes.

• Educational finance, curriculum flexibility, career pathways, and impact on equity.
