Criteria for Admission to UC Davis Graduate Studies

Navigating Eligibility Pathways Through GradPathways Institute For Professional Development

We are dedicated to cultivating the best learning experience for our students and scholars, ensuring that every participant meets rigorous standards of academic excellence. Below, you will find a comprehensive guide outlining the required for admission into our esteemed graduate programs.

Eligibility Requirements:

Duplication of Degrees Policy:

Students are not eligible for admission into programs that would result in duplicating degrees they already hold, except where they apply for a master’s or doctoral degree in a distinct field from their initial degree. The new program will evaluate whether the area of investigation differs significantly enough to warrant admission.

Minimum GPA Requirement:

Applicants must mntn a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4-point scale based on their undergraduate institution's grading system for eligibility. If an applicant’s GPA does not meet this minimum and the admissions committee wishes to recomm admission, the graduate admissions advisor may submit a justification with a request for exception to the Associate Dean for Graduate Students.

GRE Scores:

In evaluating applications that include GRE scores, it is important to consider them holistically rather than focusing solely on the quantitative or verbal sections. There should not be an established minimum cutoff score for any section; instead, these scores should be integrated with other aspects of the application in a comprehensive review process.

For applicants whose programs require GRE scores, electronic submission through ETS directly to UC Davis Institution Code 4834 is mandatory. The Graduate program staff members can access individual applicant's scores via the online application system.

English Language Proficiency:

Applicants who did not receive a prior degree from an institution where English is the primary language of instruction, or those from regions where English is not the predominant language for academic purposes, must submit TOEFL or IELTS scores.

English Language Score Submission:

TOEFL scores should be reported electronically to UC Davis from ETS using Institution Code 4834. For IELTS, scores must be sent directly to the University of California, Davis Graduate Studies via their official website; an institution code is not required for this process.
