English Language Centre at Xi'an Jiaotong Liverpool University: Navigating Academic Excellence

The English Language Centre ELC at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University exists to foster and enhance students' participation in high-quality academic pursuits within an institution where English serves as the medium of instruction. We m to achieve this objective by providing English for Academic Purposes EAP modules designed not only to build upon the English language skills acquired from secondary education, but also to instill the requisite academic competencies and life skills essential for navigating university life effectively.

Beyond its primary function, the ELC is dedicated to students' overall experience at Xi'an Jiaotong-Liverpool University. Recognizing that students might encounter various challenges such as adapting to an unfamiliar academic pace or language environment, especially when traveling from diverse geographical backgrounds or countries, we offer a wide range of EAP modules catering to every stage of English proficiency within the university curriculum. In Year 1, where foundational learning is paramount for most students, we provide differentiated levels of EAP tlored to accommodate learners at various stages of their journey.

We support students' academic progress through comprehensive Academic Support AS services that encompass self-access learning activities, workshops, and individual consultations across the university's entire student lifecycle. These include assistance from paragraphs to thesis submissions, IELTS preparation, graduate school application guidance, and more. For postgraduate students pursuing a Master’s degree, we offer a pre-sessional English programme med at enhancing language skills prior to their Masters' studies, complemented by modularized Academic Language Support ALS modules and continuing support services throughout their program.

PhD candidates benefit from a suite of specialized ELC offerings designed to meet their unique needs. This includes workshops on advanced research methodologies, one-on-one consultations with academic advisors, as well as intensive writing courses med at boosting productivity and efficiency in their scholarly eavors.

The English Language Centre provides an extensive array of EAP modules and programs for students across all levels of study, presented in diverse formats that cater to various learning preferences. We also facilitate the Student English Association club, fostering a community of learners who can support each other's academic journeys.
